LED displays replaced by “drop-in” LCD

Recently we were contacted by one of our customers to find an LCD solution for a space limited application.

This development company was contacted to find a way to offer more text feedback on an existing product without immense changes to the design. At that point the feedback was limited by a 4 digit LED display. But to replace LED displays with LCD is not a simple task.
Fortunately our supplier Bolymin has displays with DIP connection. Because the external sizes are kept to a minimum and the displays are suitable for direct soldering on a PCB! The Bolymin LCD is a 2x8 character type (but other versions are available too), increasing the number of characters by 12. The dot matrix structure of the LCD is easier for creating characters than 7-segment types.

In order to make the display noticeable from larger distance, the STN negative / white LED backlight version was selected.
Yet another example of the possibilities DiBis has to offer due to our extensive product portfolio!

Cooperation with SGD and DiBis

 

Another project DiBis was able to finalize successfully.
The customer has a strong focus on support, long term availability and flexibility. Since the display is often considered the “face of the application”, the so called looks must be good and increase the value of the product. When designing such a high value product, companies are careful who to select. Fortunately DiBis was able to provide all in cooperation with our supplier SGD. The displays is a 7 inch WVGA display with wide viewing angle, high brightness and touch assembly.

High performance 2x40 LCD white LED backlight

 

Our customer has been using LCD for many years. The past year they got more and more requests for a different look, so they changed to FSTN negative and white LED backlight. Unfortunately their supplier was not able to offer long lifetime white LED backlights, so the contrast decreased dramatically in a few months.

 

Recently DiBis was allowed to offer an equivalent as a test. This test has been successful up until now. The quality of the display exceeded their expectations, the LED lifetime seems to be much better and the flexible attitude of NELYtech helped them to prevent a productionstop.
