FULL-CUSTOM
Full-custom means that a part of the display or the complete display has been altered to the customer's specific needs.
So changing size and / or the shape op the PCB, adding components and therefore the layout of the PCB, changing glass size, glass color, character font etc. will result in a customer specific solution.
In almost all cases an NRE charge¹ is required to start the development.
Also in the case of full-custom developments, LCD and LED products are mostly subject to the changes needed. Quite often resistive touchscreens and IR touchscreens are easy to adjust to a certain look or design of the final product. However, other touch technologies are also suitable for customization.
When thinking of TFT’s and industrial PC products, the full-custom development is very intensive and in most cases only available for large quantities in combination with a high level of an NRE investment.
Typical full-custom developments involve:
- Complete new design of mechanical dimensions
- Ultra high brightness
- Different interface solutions
- Board and touch assembly
- Special coatings and surface treatments
- Ultra low power components
- Different BIOS development
The choice is yours!
¹ Non-recurring engineering (NRE) refers to the one-time cost of researching, developing, designing, and testing a new product.
When budgeting for a project, NRE must be considered in order to analyze if a new product will be profitable. Even though a company will pay for NRE on a project only once, NRE can be considerably high and the product will have to sell well enough to produce a return on the initial investment.
