LCD MODULES
LCD modules are available in segment, character, graphic and color versions. Our information per technology is below.
SEGMENT
Often segment LCD's are offered in panel version. It is up to the customer to assemble these panels on a PCB and provide a backlight to maintain a low cost solution. Manufacturers have expanded their service in a module solution for segmented LCD. Driving electronics can be cut to a minimum as well as assembly efforts for our customers.
CHARACTER
In the past 40 years LCD products have been used in both consumer as in industrial applications. The character displays usually range from 1x8 to 4x40, but are now available in many different versions.
Our suppliers offer character LCD's with features such as:
- (F)STN positive and negative
- Various backlight colors
- Wide temperature range
- 3V or 5V input
- Interface inputs such as 4-bit / 8-bit parallel, I2C and RS232/RS485
GRAPHIC
The range of graphic displays is enormous. We offer small size chip on glass up to large size chip on board modules. The various technologies and component variaty enable us to offer almost any kind of display solution needed.
Graphic display types are available with:
- STN or FSTN technology
- Positive or negative mode

CSTN
Now that TFT displays have decreased in price over the last few years, Color Super Twisted Nematic LCD's are still available. Eventhough they can not compete with TFT in viewing angle and response time, CSTN displays have proven to be available much more stable. Also the CSTN displays need less interfacing capacity and system memory.
Small and low cost TFT displays often change in size, shape and interfacing, where CSTN displays hardly change at all. OEM developments many benefit from the long term availability of CSTN displays.
