These displays are very high quality TFT’s for point of interest, industrial, medical and transportation applications where specific requirements are needed. Our product availability covers display systems that are sunlight readable, have a wide operational temperature and long life backlight TFT LCDs.

Most of these products are sold with an adjusted inverter with wide dimming function. Not just for CCFL high brightness, but also for bright white LED backlight. These LED backlights are even easier to dim and have a wider temperature range.

Sunlight readable / Daylight readable

Sunlight readable is often created by a high bright backlight. However, this will cause more power consumption and more heat dissipation. From a number of suppliers a transflective TFT is available. This means that the ambient light is used to create contrast. The transflective types are not very common in the TFT market and the prices are quite higher than regular types.

Daylight readability is offered by several manufacturers. The term used can vary, but TMR is quite common. TMR stands for Transmissive Micro Reflective. TMR technology creates a module that is more transmissive than reflective and therefore retaining significant reflective properties. The advantage of this technology is good outdoor readability, superior colour saturation and better indoor performance than colour transflective technology.

Another way to create daylight readability is optical bonding. The surface of the display is treated with a special coating or film. This will eliminate a large portion of the ambient light and will increase the performance of the display. Another advantage is that the glass will be more rugged and more resistant to scratching.
